approx. 10 min. An adaptation of a piece originally written for septet, and recorded on the album Justin Morell Septet. This instrumentation existed in an earlier draft and was revised in 2024 for the Lebanon Valley College Valley Jazz Orchestra. At 300 BPM, this piece is a challenge for the rhythm section especially, but also has some intricate fast-moving lines for the ensemble. There are some open stretches for multiple soloists to improvise together, as well as very open, extended solo sections for soprano and guitar. It’s possible to keep this within about nine minutes, but it can be stretched out longer if desired.
Instrumentation: [5, 4, 4, 4] soprano, alto, 2 tenor, baritone saxophones; trumpets double flugelhorn.
