Performed in rehearsal here by Doctor Ohm Digital Jazz Orchestra.
Approx. 8 minutes. Noon is composed for 5/4/4/4 jazz orchestra. Solos are for tenor 1 and guitar. The melody is introduced by bass clarinet, bass, and piano, and low voices are featured in important melodic roles throughout. This is an adaptation of a piece originally recorded on the album Justin Morell Quartet. The last couple pages of the score quote Russ Ferrante’s voicings played on the quartet recording from 1996.
The dynamic marking “m” is used throughout to indicate “mezzo”, or medium volume, in place of the more typical “mf” and “mp”.
Instrumentation: [5, 4, 4, 4] soprano, alto (doubles flute), 2 tenor, baritone (doubles bass clarinet) saxophones; trumpets double flugelhorn.
Score is available for free here, and is featured in the video above. Purchase includes the complete set of parts. As with all music on this site, parts are designed to be printed in booklet form on 17 x 11 paper, but can be printed and taped on letter-size paper.
