Solos are for trombone 2, trumpet 2, and soprano saxophone. A rhythm section instrument solo can substitute in place of trombone 2 if desired. The passage beginning at m. 106 begins as something of a saxophone soli which morphs over two choruses into a full-ensemble contrapuntal texture.
The dynamic marking “m” is used throughout to indicate “mezzo”, or medium volume, in place of the more typical “mf” and “mp”.
